Fully aware of their mistakes in the Asian Games finals, India women’s hockey team forward Lalremsiami on Saturday stated they might be confident of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In last year’s Asian Games, India finished 2d after 1-2 to Japan to overlook qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“We performed very well at the Asian Games and knew that if we had gained there, we would have qualified for the Olympics. We worked hard at some point in the tournament but made a few mistakes,” Lalremsiami stated. The crew, led by skipper Rani Rampal, took revenge by beating Japan three in June’s final of the FIH Women’s Series Finals. “After that, we decided that we could not repeat our errors at the FIH Women’s Series Finals, and we triumphed in the competition against the identical Japan team we lost to in the 18th Asian Games Final,” she introduced.
The Indian women’s crew, presently ranked tenth in the global ratings, will face difficult challenges in opposition to Australia and China (eleventh) and hosts Japan (14th) in the Olympic Test event, scheduled to start in Tokyo on August 17. “The team may be very confident before the Olympic Test Event because we have labored tough at some point in our exercise sessions. If we do properly at the Olympic Test Event, we can gain more confidence ahead of the Olympic Qualifiers,” she said.
